George Friedrich Handel's 'Esther' is the first English oratorio. Besides this the piece contains everything that made Handel famous for his oratorios: drama, moving arias and an overwhelming final chorus. The story is full of intrigue and betrayal (but with a positive ending). The Judaean girl Esther becomes the wife of the Persian king Ahasuerus. As queen she saves her people from death. The Apollo Ensemble provides an exciting performance. The ensemble previously made a great impression in the Edesche Concertzaal with Handel's 'Brockes-Passion'.
