Denis Kozhukhin
Denis Kozhukhin doesn't like career planning very much. "I hate the word 'career', just let me take a fascinating musical path," he says. Yet the career of the celebrated pianist is turbulent. Not only did he win First Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, Denis Kozhukhin previously won the Vendome Prize at the Verbier Festival. Since then he has played with important orchestras such as the Philharmonia Orchestra in London and the Philadelphia Orchestra and can be heard on famous concert stages such as the Wiener Konzerthaus, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Wigmore Hall in London.
From Handel to Debussy
In the Edesche Concert Hall Denis Kozhukhin shows what he has to offer. Just as easily he switches between all kinds of music styles. That varies from a baroque keyboard suite by Handel to the swinging 'Rhapsody in Blue' by George Gershwin. And from three romantic 'Intermezzi' by Brahms to the picturesque preludes by Claude Debussy.
Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue
Denis Kozhukhin plays Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue' as the blistering bouncer of his recital. Mischievous winks at jazz are alternated with lyrical passages that seem to come straight from Ravel. The melting pot of America, the madness of the big city; it all resounds in Gershwin's famous nuts. Curious what Kozhukhin does with that crackling clarinet solo at the beginning? Come and listen!
