Anna Vinnitskaya - Chopin, Debussy, Prokofiev - World Pianists

Pianosonate nr. 4, op. 29
Anna Vinnitskaya
  • I. Allegro molto sostenuto
  • II. Andante assai
  • III. Allegro con brio, ma non leggiero
There are several lectures about Prokofiev's sources of inspiration for his 'Fourth Piano Sonata'. In his diary the composer says he is basing himself on a rejected symphony, but in his autobiography he claims that the material for this work comes from an earlier piano sonata. But perhaps the sombre content of the piece has more to do with his childhood friend Maximilian Schmidthof, to whom Prokofiev dedicated his sonata. The tragic death of this Maximilian made a deep impression on the composer.

Anna Vinnitskaya

  • VIII. La terrasse des audiences du clair de lune
  • XII. Feux d'artifice
The special thing about Debussy's 'Préludes' is that the composer did not place the titles of the pieces at the top, but at the bottom. As if the possible source of inspiration is less important than the music itself. Like Chopin, Debussy composed 24 preludes for piano. But unlike the miniatures of his famous predecessor, those of Debussy are large independent pieces
L'Isle joyeuse
Anna Vinnitskaya
L'isle joyeuse' was inspired by a painting by Watteau, L'embarquement pour Cythère A cheerful company departs by ship from or to the mythical island of Cithera, where Venus, the goddess of love, was born. The composition is joyful and optimistic, perhaps a longing for a world full of love, like on Cythere.

In the thirties of the nineteenth century Chopin earned money as a piano teacher. In order to provide his talented students with good practice material, he composed his 'Preludes', op. 28. Despite the initial pedagogical purpose of the pieces, they are much more than 'exercises'. As in Bach's famous 'Wohltempertes Klavier', Chopin alternates between minor and major tones in these miniatures

The masterly pianist Anna Vinnitskaya can rarely be heard in the Netherlands. Luckily she makes an exception for the Bösendorfer Imperial of the Edesche Concert Hall. Anna Vinnitskaya has a special connection with the music of Sergey Prokofiev. She won the famous Queen Elisabeth Competition 2007 and it also earned her the ECHO Klassik award in 2011. In the Edesche Concert Hall she connects Prokofiev's Fourth Piano Sonata with picturesque preludes by Chopin and Debussy.
