Vioolsonate in A (1886)
Anna Fedorova Eldbjørg Hemsing Dana Zemtsov Benedict Kloeckner Kirill Torussov

  • II. Allegro
  • III. Recitativo-Fantasia. Ben moderato

Cesar Franck had intended his 'Violin Sonata' as a wedding present for his friend Eugène Ysaÿe. But the piece became one of the most played violin sonatas of the entire nineteenth century. What's the secret? Franck turned the music into a kind of love drama without words. Just as the main character in a novel or in a film undergoes a psychological change, so Franck plays the main melody in all sorts of guises. It doesn't get any more romantic than that
