"Women are not born to compose," Clara Schumann once said. She herself proved the opposite, because Clara Schumann is one of the most famous female composers of the entire nineteenth century. What is special about Robert and Clara Schumann is that both spouses regularly refer to each other's music in their pieces. In the first Romanze, for example, Clara quotes from Robert Schumann's 'First Violin Sonata'

During his forced stay in France, Chopin often thought back to his homeland Poland. This can be heard in his beautiful Mazurkas, which Chopin based on elements from Polish folk music. Heartbreaking melancholy rings out in these Mazurkas, on. 63. "I can hardly remember how they sang at home," the composer sighed in a letter shortly before his death.

  • I. Nicht zu schnell
  • II. [Scherzo]
What, a piano quartet by Gustav Mahler? We know Mahler mainly as a composer of heaven-sent symphonies. In his unfinished Piano Quartet, which he composed as a conservatory student, you can already hear something of this. The Russian composer Alfred Schnittke became so fascinated by this fragment that he finished the unfinished 'Scherzo', but not without giving it his own twist. Schnittke was so satisfied with the result that he also included this part in his 'Fourth Concerto Grosso/Fifth Symphony'.

Schubert's famous 'Trout Quintet' owes its nickname to the famous slow middle section. Schubert based this on his famous song 'Die Forelle'. The piano has the leading part and surrounded by violin, viola, cello and double bass Anna Fedorova undoubtedly feels like a fish in the water
