Hexagon Ensemble plays Beethoven

Beethoven was such a big fan of Mozart's music that he composed a quintet for piano and four wind instruments, just like Mozart. Yet Beethoven gave it a twist of his own. Mozart treats the five instruments equally, Beethoven's Quintet for piano and wind not only sounds like a mini-piano concerto, it is also, at least when Beethoven played it himself. In the last movement the 26-year-old Beethoven gave such a long improvisation that he drove his fellow players to despair. Every time they thought it was almost finished, Beethoven gave another twist to his improvisation. It won't come to that at the Hexagon Ensemble. They guarantee a conscientious performance of Beethoven's masterpiece

"Hexagon remains a fascinating ensemble."
Flautist Wout van den Berg says: "It's nice if the audience gets to see a different line-up each time at our concerts. In Ede, for example, we play three quintets, each with a different line-up. Every quintet has a different colour. That's more attractive than if we only played pieces for sextet.'"

Vienna and Paris: once the most important music centres of Europe. The Hexagon Ensemble plays the most beautiful music these cities produced. Classical and elevated is Beethoven's quintet for piano and wind instruments, which sounds like a mini-piano concerto. More naughty is 'L'Heure des Berger' by Jean Françaix - the composer mixed it with the typically French 'joie de vivre'. According to the press, Hexagon is "Boundless. Overwhelming. Intrusive. Passionate. Virtuoso." Time to meet the Hexagon!
