The five ladies of recorder quintet Seldom Sene - music from sixteenth-century Spain

Some of the program:

Josquin Des Prez - La Spagna

The Victoria - Ave regina caelorum

The Cabezon - Susana

The air is getting thin

In the programme 'El aire se serena' Seldom Sene interprets the delicate melancholy in the songs of Juan Vásquez and the rich melodies in the Maria motets of Lobo, Guerrero and Victoria. But also enjoy the virtuosity and playful style of, for example, Antonio de Cabezón in his glossadas: richly decorated versions of very well-known chansons such as 'Susanne un jour'.

The five ladies of recorder quintet Seldom Sene will take you to the Spanish palaces and cathedrals of the sixteenth century. They play beautiful arrangements of vocal music, ranging from the melancholic songs of Juan Vásquez to the virtuoso fireworks in the music of Antonio de Cabezón. In 2014 Seldom Sene won first prize at the International Van Wassenaer Competition. "This is a perfect ensemble that can only grow", wrote Merlijn Kerkhof in NRC Handelsblad
