Peter Gijsbertsen is at home in many markets. Whether it's opera, the song or Bach's great passions, it's written for him. During this New Year's concert he shines in beautiful French and English songs about the love of among others Britten, Poulenc. The programme also includes songs by Henri Duparc, Reynaldo Hahn and Gerald Finzi. The new year couldn't have started better!
What a beautiful and rich sound! "When I heard Peter Gijsbertsen play the first song on his debut CD Nacht und Träume (Night and Tree), a feeling of rapture came over me", writes the renowned Operamagazine in a review about Peter Gijsbertsen
Composers such as the Frenchman Francis Poulenc and the Brit Benjamin Brits were not only phenomenal pianists but also celebrated song accompanists. Both of them wrote beautiful songs which they performed themselves. Francis Poulenc was a man of the good life and had a lifelong admiration for chanson singer Édith Piaf. Many of his songs have the same lightness as the famous French chansons, as can be heard in the three songs of his collection 'Métamorphoses'
Peter Gijsbertsen is one of the most important up-and-coming singers of the moment. In Glyndebourne (Great Britain) he received the prestigious John Christie Award. Moreover, he was triple winner at the International Vocalist Competition Den Bosch, including the first prize for Lied. With this prize in his pocket he sang solo recitals in Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and De Doelen in Rotterdam. Peter Gijsbertsen was also nominated for the Schaunard Award of opera platform 'Place de l'Opéra'
