Aranjuez ma pensée
Fernando Cordas (gitaar) Izhar Elias (gitaar)
The Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo drew his inspiration for Concierto de Aranjuez during a walk through the gardens of the Aranjuez Palace. This palace once housed the Spanish kings of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Rodrigo captured something of the atmosphere of the palace in the famous 'Adagio'

When hearing the first sounds of 'Asturias' you immediately think of Spain. Although the piece is often performed on guitar, Albéniz Asturias originally wrote for piano.

Granados entered the history books as the 'Spanish Chopin'. Just like Chopin, Granados wrote a lot of piano music, including this collection Valses Poeticos. The fact that these waltzes come into their own not only on piano, but also on two guitars, is shown by Izhar and Fernando at the end of this concert

The 'Adagio' from Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez became perhaps the most famous guitar work of all time. With the first sounds of this melancholic melody you immediately imagine yourself in the warm Spain. Around this legendary 'Adagio' guitarists Izhar Elias and Fernando Cordas play a temperamental Spanish programme with even a trip to Beethoven. Even in the Vienna of the young Beethoven the guitar was a hip instrument. Izhar and Fernando celebrate Beethoven's 250th year of birth with a large collection of special guitars
