Liza Ferschtman and Enrico Pace

Violinist Liza Ferschtman and pianist Enrico Pace; this combination alone makes the heart beat faster. For Liza it was a long cherished wish to perform with master pianist Enrico Pace. "As a girl, I admired the Italian pianist Enrico Pace. By bringing him to Delft, a musical friendship arose and we now play concerts together" During this concert Liza and Enrico play robust violin sonatas by Beethoven, Ravel and Enescu

Special relationship with Enescu

A special piece on the programme is the Third Violin Sonata by the Romanian composer Georges Enescu. Just like Bartók he had a special predilection for the folk music of his country and you can hear that in the music. In the spirit of Romanian folk music' he wrote above the score of his Third Violin Sonata. Like a real gypsy musician, Liza makes her violin sob. Here and there the Bösendorfer Imperial even sounds like a cimbalom

Ravel and Beethoven

Ravel's Violin Sonata is also full of winks at folk music. Not that of France, but that of the blues. In the second part of his Violin Sonata, Ravel even explicitly called it 'Blues'. The rest of the piece is full of subtle hints of American jazz. Together with Enrico Pace, Liza Ferschtman penetrates deep into the fibres of this exciting piece to finally get back on familiar ground with Beethoven's Sixth Violin Sonata. Everywhere Liza Ferschtman appears, she enraptures the public. "Ferschtman began to play, soft and conjuring, with a tone that forces you to go along," wrote a reviewer. This certainly applies to George Enescu's Third Violin Sonata with traits of Romanian folk music and Ravel's Violin Sonata full of references to the blues. Liza takes Enrico Pace with her, a pianist she has admired since childhood and with whom she regularly performs together.
