Francesca Dego (violin)

Vioolsonate nr. 6 in Es, op. 12, nr. 3
Francesca Leonardi (piano) Francesca Dego (viool)
  • I. Allegro con spirito
  • II. Adagio con molt' espressione
  • III. Rondo. Allegro molto
Around 1800, the violin sonata (or rather: a sonata for piano and violin) was mainly the showpiece for the pianist. The violin was only hanging there a little bit. Beethoven threw that principle overboard and he made the violin and piano parts equal. Irregular contrasts and contrary rhythms give Beethoven's 'Third Violin Sonata' even more spice
Vioolsonate nr. 1 in a, op. 105
Francesca Leonardi (piano) Francesca Dego (viool)
  • I. Mit leidenschaftlichem Ausdruck
  • II. Allegretto
  • III. Lebhaft
Schumann only ventured into his First Violin Sonata when he was in his forties. Schumann wrote the piece in a mood in which, as he wrote, he was "very angry". Perhaps that anger contributed to Schumann putting the piece on paper in a few days. "With passionate expression," he wrote above the first part. But despite all the stubbornness, the piece also has lighter moments.
PAUZE
Vioolsonate in b
Francesca Leonardi (piano) Francesca Dego (viool)
  • I. Moderato
  • II. Andante espressivo
  • III. Allegro moderato ma energico
Just as breathtaking as the sight of the city of Rome is, so heartwarming is the music of Ottorino Respighi. The city of Rome plays a major role in many of his plays. His Violin Sonata Respighi wrote the orchestral work Fontane di Roma (The Fountains of Rome) at the same time. Just like this classic, Respighi's Violin Sonata is bursting with "long lilting melodies", according to a contemporary.
3 Caprices de Paganini, op. 40
Francesca Leonardi (piano) Francesca Dego (viool)
  • I. Andante dolcissimo
  • II. Adagio (molto espressivo ed affetuoso)
  • III. Thème varié. Vivace
For a long time the 24 Capriccio's for violin solo by Paganini were considered unplayable because they were so difficult. The Polish composer Karol Szymanowski added a little more in his 3 Caprices de Paganini. Not only the violinist is asked to do his utmost, the pianist is also allowed to play hard to get.
