Openingsconcert

'Forces of nature'

Opening Concert

The International Chamber Music Festival starts with an international concert. Not only do the musicians come from all corners of the earth, the music originates from many different countries. Pianist Anna Fedorova starts the concert with the festive ‘Grande Valse brillante', op. 18 by Chopin. This piece is followed by music by the Austrian Mozart, the Norwegian Edvard Grieg and the Russian Sergej Prokofjev. Pièce de résistance on the program is Tchaikovsky’s world famous 'Souvenir de Florence'. What is the connection between these pieces? This edition of the festival is themed ‘Forces of Nature’.

'Forces of Nature'

Artistic director Anna Fedorova could not have come up with a theme more suited for this festival. In Ede, in the beautiful Veluwe area, surrounded by heathland and forests, nature is always close. Like this, most of the musical pieces have a direct connection with nature and everything related to it. The main piece of the program, Tchaikovsky's 'Souvenir de Florence' is all sunny 'joie de vivre'. Tchaikovsky started composing this piece during a holiday in the Italian city Florence and finished it at home, which explains the title. A musical souvenir of a summer holiday.

Who thinks about Italy, thinks about sun and picturesque landscapes. Tchaikovsky was so impressed by the city of Florence that he devoted an entire piece to it. It became the sunny ‘Souvenir de Florence’.
